Oh man is there a lot going on here. Those cupcakes alone look light and moist and delightful and then you go and pile on some pretty, fluffy, buttery icing mmmmmmm. And THEN you make little heart cookies and you ice them BUT you use MORE icing to make them all fancy and swirly and amazing. Then you PUT IT ON THE CUPCAKE! I'm so exhausted. I can't eat. I need a nap.
The first time I ever saw eggs in a basket was in a black and white slapstick comedy from the 40s. I wish I could remember what the movie was. I was watching late at night probably about 12 years ago now and was so inspired by this snack they ate onscreen that I had to make it immediately. It has since become a standby snack that I will eat at any time of day. Nowadays I add Sriracha and maybe some quick sauteed greens and call it lunch. Excuse me, I have to go turn on the stove now.
When I was a kid my dad always used to try to get me to eat squash by saying "it's just like candy!" which of course is a lie and irrelevant since I've never had a huge sweet tooth. Also, squash is still nasty, sorry dad!
Now if I had been a pain about fruit, this could have done the trick for sure. I love apples but still, even as an adult I have a hard time eating all the fruit I should. Maybe my husband will carve hearts in them for me.
Who doesn't love a surprise in their treats? Of course, when that surprise is a happy treat itself, not, like, a worm or something. Finding a heart in your cupcake is like finding a love note. It makes you feel special to know that someone cares enough to make a gesture.
