"Why would I make any more when everybody yells at you all the time and says what a terrible person you are?" he said, when asked about the future of the series.
Part of his decision also comes from his frustration with the way studios were treating his new movie, "Red Tails," about the all black Tuskegee Airmen squad in World War II. One Hollywood executive didn't even show up for the movie's screening.
"Isn't this their job? Isn't their job at least to see movies?" he said. "I'm retiring. I'm moving away from the business, from the company, from all this kind of stuff."
Lucas says he will still make smaller, more personal films.
