What I wouldn't give for a sweet, crunchy, delicious treat right about now.
So much cupcake decorating is based on the notion of piling heaps of stuff on top of the cake, it's refreshing to see someone make use of negative space here, so to speak. A creamy pool of frosting in the middle of the cake is a nice change!
The real smart move here is the donut hole acting like a melted ice cream cone on top of the cupcake. Sure, on hot summer days it would be nice to have something cold and refreshing, but if you were presented with one of these, wouldn't you be pleasantly surprised to bite into a lump of awesome donut?
