The poster for Star Trek Into Darkness shows Benedict Cumberbatch as the (still unnamed) villain in front of a destroyed London. Here's the movie's official synopsis:
"When the crew of the Enterprise is called back home, they find an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organization has detonated the fleet and everything it stands for, leaving our world in a state of crisis.
With a personal score to settle, Captain Kirk leads a manhunt to a war-zone world to capture a one man weapon of mass destruction.
As our heroes are propelled into an epic chess game of life and death, love will be challenged, friendships will be torn apart, and sacrifices must be made for the only family Kirk has left: his crew."
That seems to rule out Khan. Who do you think the villain is? Could it actually be Gary Marshall?
Maybe. During an interview with SFX magazine, Karl Urban seems to have revealed the name of Cumberbatch's Star Trek 2 villain.
When asked about Cumberbatch, Urban said, "He's awesome, he's a great addition, and I think his Gary Mitchell is going to be exemplary."
Yep. Gary Mitchell. For anyone who doesn't know, Gary Mitchell is a character from Star Trek's second pilot episode, "Where No Man has Gone Before." An old Starfleet Academy friend of Kirk's, Gary Mitchell became an insane psychic with god-like powers after the Enterprise tried to cross the Great Barrier at the edge of the galaxy.
Of course Urban could just be trolling us and mentioning a character that isn't even in the movie. It sounds like something J.J. Abrams would have someone do. What do you think? Would you like to see Gary Mitchell in the new movie? If not, what villain would you prefer?
